Off the strip

Hi all,

I have read about the %26#39;no man%26#39;s land%26#39; north of the Stratosphere and south of Downtown, but what about going off the strip to the east and west?

For example, if I wanted to walk to the Rio, would I need to keep my wits about me? And likewise, going in the other direction?

I wouldn%26#39;t walk to the Rio because you have to cross the the freeway junction and I think the car traffic makes it unsafe. There are several shuttles between the Coast casinos and the Rio that make them more accessible to the strip and walking between the Rio and the Palms isn%26#39;t that bad.

Going the otherway, I wouldn%26#39;t walk that way alone after dark. Its not well lit.

Off the strip

Feel free to let your wits go where they may. Walking to the Rio is a silly thing to do. You are walking along a road where the traffic is going by you at 40-60 MPH and you have to cross over a freeway onramp. You can catch the shuttle from Harrah%26#39;s. Or you can go by shuttle from Barbary Coast to Gold Coast and then walk across the street to the Rio.

Even in the casinos you have to be aware of your surroundings. People have pockets picked and purses snatched from time to time. Always be aware of your surroundings.

If you want to play ';';DIRTY HARRY ';'; do it at home so relatives can bury you.

I%26#39;d love to know where Goose gets her facts. If 11 tourists are dying a day, it%26#39;s from heart attacks. Not that they are being murdered.

Don%26#39;t waste your time walking to the Rio, there is a CAT Bus that goes along Flamingo every 10 - 15 minutes and drops you outside. Spent 2 weeks ';off strip'; on Flamingo and never felt unsafe. Found the strip at night more intimidating when really crowded or about 11pm when the heat and drink had kicked in for some.
