First timers in Vegas

My husband and I are in our 40s and are planning a trip to Vegas in February. What is Vegas like in Feb. weather etc. and how many days will we need to see the sites that one should see while in Vegas? any advice appreciated, thanks

';see the sites';

You might want to be a little more specific with your question. Some folks can see everything they need of Las Vegas in a couple days and others need a week or more. I would guess most first visits average 3-4 nights.

GREAT TIP: Rooms are always MUCH cheaper Sun-Thur as opposed to Fri and Sat. You will save a lot of money and time by arriving on a Sunday and departing by Friday.

Agree with stauchsteve, Sun-Thurs are the best nights to be in Vegas as weekend prices go way up. Also, the locals crowd into everywhere on the weekends and lines are long. Limits at the gaming tables go up, too.

I was in Vegas last February. The days were in the 60s and sunny, evenings in low-mid 50s, it rained once but that ended quite quickly. Not a bad time of year to visit, too cool for outdoor pools, though (at least in my opinion).

Lots of sites! But for a first time I%26#39;d guess 4 or 5 days would be sufficient.

Thanks for the tip of Sun.-Thurs. I was vague on the sites because I%26#39;m still looking them up and trying to decide.

Depends what you like.

I suggest gambling in the day and site seeing at night due to the table costs going up at night. Or head over to Gold Coast.

Just over the freeway, near Palms %26amp; Rio. They always have $2, $3 and $5 tables. They also have Bingo if you are into that.

I would also suggest Sun-Thurs. During the week you can find good deals and the best hotels. If you can do it , I would highly recommend the Venetian. Do the Gondola ride, it%26#39;s quite nice and romantic. I would do a Southwest Package deal , usually it%26#39;s a good value.

Just walking around from hotel to hotel and seeing each one is fun. Or you could go out of the city and check out Hoover Dam. ( Might want to call and see if it%26#39;s opened yet. It was shut down for a while after 9-11-01 )

There are several hotels with rides and things to do.

Maybe even some sites in Laughlin.

As to hotels, definetly go to the Bellagio at night and catch the fountain show out front.

Go through the Venetian.

Maybe choose one night and really dress up, walk through Caesars forum shops, eat at Bertillini%26#39;s near the fountain, get some dessert at the Cheesecake factory, and then go to the Celine Dion show. It was fanominal !! Spend the extra money for really good seats, it%26#39;s a once in a lifetime !

New York , New York has a good mecican food place , and I heard the Alladin has PF Changs ( great chinese food )

There is so much you can see and do.

Stay some where with a nice heated pool .

You can always come back, there will always be more to see.

Try to set some time aside to do nothing. Just relax, take a nap, sleep in, or relax by the pool.

Check out vegas.com or lasvegas.com for more info.

Have a wonderful trip and good luck !

Angellady, thank you for the very informative post. You gave me lots to think about.

My wife have been to Vegas four times in the last ten years and just got back last week and still have not seen it all. That%26#39;s the best part of going to Vegas, there is so much to see and do you will never get board. We always stay for five days and really very satisfied when we go home. Vist all the web sites and get an idiea of what you would like to see then go and enjoy, its an awesome place.

I have been to Vegas over 50 times and I never tire of it. If you have never been there before you will probably need at least 5 days. If you plan on going off strip- Hoover Dam/Lake Mead, Grand Canyon, etc. a week would be nice if you can swing it. But that does mean paying more for the week-end- usually a lot more. The weather in the winter can vary greatly. The best advice I can give is to be sure to bring clothes that can be layered. I medium weight cardigan and a jacket with a light lining would be helpful. And the most comfortable shoes you own- this is a must not an option.

Thanks airman and VP03. Wow! 50 times to Vegas. Have you ever gotten lucky? Sorry I should rephase that. Have you ever hit the jackpot at the casinos? The weather sounds like it could be fall like for those of us who experience fall. I quite like those temps. Good luck on future trips.
