I just received a promotion from Bally%26#39;s and\or Paris for a slot tournament. B- $99.00 P- $149 includes 2 night hotel plus entry into tournament. Has anyone ever done one of these?

I%26#39;m in a slot Tourney in August @ Paris, and the rooms and entry are free. I%26#39;m going the 18-22, and the tourney is 19th and 20th. I%26#39;m not a slot person, but all you do is play for 10 minutes each day (the tourney is two days) and highest score wins.

The rooms in Paris are nicer, but how much time will you spend there? Either place is good, and since they are connected you can go back and forth.

My husband received this promotion also. We were booked for the 3 nights free and 2 nights for $99.00(casino rates) but as I have mentioned before in my other posts the lovely people at Bally%26#39;s have given us the whole 5 nights free!!!!!

Did yours mention any thing about $100.00 in free slot play? His did. We%26#39;re leaving Oct.9th. ( can%26#39;t wait). Even though We have never done this before (tournament thing) I believe the offer is great.

These promos are extremely fine-tuned to the play history of the recipient. Some of the promos are for $99/149; others are for free. Same exact tournament and hotel rooms. It doesn%26#39;t make any difference to your chances of winning. It is just that some people are whales and some aren%26#39;t.

I did one of these once. I%26#39;m not much of a slot player, but put enough points on to qualify for an invitation to the slot tournament. I am pretty sure the one I did was for three nights, not two. And for $149, for two or three nights at Paris, I was happy to sign up.

I seem to remember (I%26#39;ve several tournaments over the years at Harrah%26#39;s, Bally%26#39;s and Venetian and on cruise ships, and don%26#39;t clearly recall which one was which) that there was NOT a Friday night dinner/reception, just a sign-in, and that there were two short playing sessions on Saturday and one or two more sessions on Sunday. I also think that I didn%26#39;t bother to go to all of my slot play sessions -- my scores on Saturday were poor enough that I didn%26#39;t feel a need to finish.

Part of the casino%26#39;s plan is to have you hang around at their casino all weekend, instead of going off to other casinos to gamble your money. So they spread the tournament sessions out. If you leave after your first session, you need to rush back to make your second session. Better to stay put.

Bottom line, from my perspective: $99/$149 is a very good rate for a couple of night%26#39;s stay! And to me, I%26#39;ll pay the extra $25 per night (if it is only two nights; if it is 3 nights, it is only $17 per night) for Paris.

I%26#39;m actually doing this tournament at Bally%26#39;s/Paris on August 10/11 (was actually surprised that someone posted they were doing the same tournament the following week as I assumed it was just once a month). We ended up with 4 nights for the $149 total with 2 of the nights free. Could have gotten 3 nights free at Bally%26#39;s but I%26#39;m partial to the Paris hotel.

I understand this was a year-long tournament with $10,000 guaranteed each month and the finale in October with a $1,000,000 guarantee. They told me that we sign up on Wednesday and do two sessions - morning and afternoon - on Thursday. No reception but they gave $30 slot play I believe.

This will be my first slot tournament - I thought since I would be there anyway, why not. I don%26#39;t think I would come all the way from the East Coast just because of it though as it seems like there aren%26#39;t many chances to split the pot.

The 8/19 - 8/20 dates corresponded with my husbands%26#39; birthday so we decided to go. I prefer Paris to Bally%26#39;s and since they are comping all 4 nights at the Paris - why not go. The tournament is only 10 minutes each day. The tournament I%26#39;m goint to says the final $1 million main event is in December (8-10), and the top 50 from each ';under card bout'; will play in the finals.

I';ve done blackjack tournaments before, and even though I didn%26#39;t win, I thought it was fun.

I think one can get excellent deals doing the slot tourny. The wife and I are doing one at the Stardust August 8-10 for $99.

THATS THREE DAYS STAY ON THE STRIP FOR $99. Granted its not center strip, but heck cant beat the price. We are rounding off our week by staying at the Luxor for $79 per night.

Thanks for all the replies. I think we are going to try it this time. Our 20th anniversary is in Oct, and even though it sounds cheap we may just fit this in as part of our celebration. For you that responded that received free extended days- how did you go about getting this comped. Did you just call and ask when you made the original reservation? bkjds - When I called I mentioned the promo, but told them the dates we would be traveling. I think mine is comped due to amount of money gambled previously this year - I was there in February and then again in June. I didn%26#39;t ask for the free additional days, so it%26#39;s based upon previous play.

If you pay for additional nights and gamble, you can always apply those comped $$ earned towards your room bill.

Congrats on 20 year anniversary. October is my favorite month to be in Vegas!

Just did this at the Paris in July. I was so skeptical, the rate seemed too good to be true. But it did keep us tied to the Paris for a few days. It ended up being fun. Regardless of where you stay, Bally%26#39;s or Paris, the tournament is at Bally%26#39;s. You register on the first day for your times on the second day. Morning session and afternoon session. You will check-in at each session, and pick a chip to determine the number of the machine you will play. You can have another person play the 2nd session if you tell them ahead of time. Might be fun for two of you to try it.

A good score is about 10,000 points for a session. Most people get about 4,000. They combine the 2 scores. I ended up with about 14,000 points and won $100. That brought the total cost of the room down to $50 for 2 nights! Fabulous!

I definitely say try it.

Yes they have rooms to rent by the night - just like a hotel, just located amidst a swingers club.

Yes in Palm Springs, Terra Cotta Inn and Desert Shadows and they do not cater to a gay crowd

Which is better and why? Looking to go in December, what is the weather like then?

Both have a good location, mid-strip. Have stayed at the Flamingo but not Ballys. Hear that Bally%26#39;s rooms are better, that could be so. Flamingo rooms run from really nice to pretty shabby, you just never know. Flamingo has Margaritaville, but Bally%26#39;s has a walkway to Paris, lots of good eating there. The pool at the Flamingo is the hands down winner, but you won%26#39;t be doing much pool time in December. I like the Flamingo%26#39;s ';openness'; with the gardens and all, but you might not care. From what I hear, the casinos are about the same., I do my gambling off strip. Weather in Dec. can run from pretty nice (upper 60%26#39;s) to pretty chilly. Not pool weather, but its great for walking around during the day.

Flamingo vs. Bally's

I like Bally%26#39;s better except for the pool. But since your going in December, that probably isn%26#39;t an issue.

Why? The remodeled rooms are better. The in-door connection to Paris for better food. Great location. Bally%26#39;s isn%26#39;t flashy but is a comfortable hotel. I can usually get a better rate at bally%26#39;s also.

Lindylou - I%26#39;ve stayed at both and prefer Bally%26#39;s for the same reasons as the other posters mentioned. The Flamingo has a great pool, but it%26#39;s December so it won%26#39;t make a difference.

Bally%26#39;s rooms are much nicer and the added benefit of being connected to Paris is a big plus. I think the restaurant choices in Bally%26#39;s/Parus are much better.

Both are centrally located so you are in easy walking distance to other places.

Never stayed at the flamingo, but i can tell you about Bally%26#39;s. Check-in was about 15 to 20 minutes when I arrived around 7:30ish. When asked for an upgrade, the front desk clerk showed me both towers( north and south) recommend the south tower for the veiw and gave me the first night free.( I booked with expedia and was only given a standard room) The room was HUGH. I loved it, a view of Bellagios%26#39; water show and a great view of the south strip. Bally%26#39;s as you may know is connected to Paris, two hotels in one. The drinks kept coming, as long as you were playing. I even got free drinks just because my husband was playing poker so long !!!!!(I was sitting there waiting for him in the poker room) Bally%26#39;s is however for a mature crowd, not a real partying hotel, but it has a great atmosphere and everyone there was friendly.

..........Bally%26#39;s is better for all reasons......ask for a room on the highest floor facing the bellagio fountains and the paris......

Lindylou - I%26#39;m not a fan of vacation packages, I believe you can usually get a better deal direct. Maybe check out the airfare and the hotel separately to see which works out for you. If you really want an upgraded room, I would suggest booking it up front. This is the only way to know that you will get the room you want. You can ask at check-in, sometimes they have upgrades available - they may ask you to pay for them, or they may be free.

I can%26#39;t compare the Flamingo to Bally%26#39;s because I%26#39;ve never stayed at the Flamingo. I know I really like Bally%26#39;s location and pricing. I%26#39;ve also only ever gotten one room I didn%26#39;t like- it was really old looking but offered an excellent south strip view which included part of the fountain show. It%26#39;s no Bellagio, but it%26#39;s a good, clean %26amp; well situated place to stay.

Each of my trips has been from Chicago and I%26#39;ve always foudn that I could book my trips at better rates than I could get through any package deal, including those I%26#39;ve seen from America West Vacations. Of course, I%26#39;ve also signed up for lots of email mailing lists and have gotten a bunch of great deals via email and I do plit my trips between two hotels on several occasions so I could get a good combinations of great rooms %26amp; good values. Buying a package deal is probably less of a hassle, but I like having more control and saving money.

I haven%26#39;t had any luck in getting an upgrade just by asking, but the one time I was upgraded a bit I had book directly through the hotel. I%26#39;ve also been able to get rates adjusted and reservations cancelled wbhen I%26#39;ve seen better deals pop up online.

Trip Report: 7/29/05 - 8/1/05, Mirage (long)

I flew in NWA. The flight was delayed (lightning), but we finally made it in. Some guy playing the 25 cen slots at the baggage claim won $5000. Wow!

I rented a car (convertible T-bird) at Avis - I%26#39;m an Avis preferred member so I didn%26#39;t have to wait in line. If interested, just sign up online. It was ready, but we requested a car wash. We (my boyfriend and I) drove down the 15 to Stateline aka Primm, NV. There are three casinos here: Buffalo Bill%26#39;s, Whiskey Pete%26#39;s, and Primm Valley - along with an outlet center. These hotels are listed in order from cheapest and up. We stayed at Buffalo Bill%26#39;s. I won%26#39;t say much about the stay except Whiskey Pete%26#39;s has the loosest slots.

Back to the strip. Valet and baggage were friendly and helpful. We get to Mirage at 2:40pm for the 3pm check-in for our non-smoking, 1 king bed, pool view room booked directly through the casino. Why was our room not going to be ready until 5pm? We were offered a smoking room, a volcano view room, or a double bed room. My boyfriend say no. We comprimised with a supervisor who said we%26#39;d get a $25 food/beverage credit and we waited for the 5pm room.

We gambled at the casino. My boyfriend lost on craps. I did so-so on some slots. There are a lot of stores in the casino/hotel and one of them is like an overpriced walgreens that stayed open very late for any forgotten or needed supplies. The pool is huge and not too croweded. The casino itself is nice, but the white tiger at the entrance wasn%26#39;t there. We had to look at the regular orange tiger until the next day. We finally get our room at about 4:30pm. It was nice: marble floor, closet, iron, hair-dryer, 2 phones. And a nice pool-view. The rest of the day we lost money in the Mirage, but a pit-boss did get us food at the Carnegie Deli (a nice sandwich spot)based on our comps. That evening we went to Casino Royale (a cheap casino) across the street. I actually won a little there on slots and Blackjack.

The next day we were up at 5am so we hung out on the strip while the crowds were gone and the weather was bearable. We visited Flamingo. A host lead us to another woman at the ';Hilton Grand Vacations Club'; booth. Long story short, we received 2 dinner buffets to Bally%26#39;s or Flaming and 2 tickets to Bally%26#39;s Jubilee show for $10. We had to go to a timeshare presentation for this but it was worth it. We ended up getting a sample time share (about three weeks worth) that we%26#39;ll use (see Free stuff from Time Share Presentation).

Beware: On the strip near O%26#39;shea%26#39;s Casino, Flamingo, Harrah, etc. There are hustlers who will try to get you to listen to come to their booths, and they will offer you a lot of free stuff like shows, rooms, dinner, etc. DON%26#39;T STOP TO TALK TO THESE PEOPLE WHO LITERRALLY STAND ON THE STREET TO GET YOU TO COME TO THEIR BOOTHS.

The Jubilee show was cool since it was our first Vegas show ever. It has the dancers with flamboyant costumes and headgear, special acts, and a tribute to the titanic. We missed the Bally dinner buffet but were able to go to the Bally%26#39;s restaurant called Sidewalk Cafe - $13.95 crab legs and prime rib. It was cool.

Our last day we were up again at 6am. We ventured Casino Royale again, then Venetian, Treasure Island, Wynn, and Frontier. Then, we had an awesome breakfast at Mirage%26#39;s Cravings buffet. Afterwards, we saw Siegfried and Roy%26#39;s Dolphin Habitat. It was interesting but there were no dolphin show and all of the wildlife animals were sleep. For $15 a head, we could have not gone.

Check out was smooth. An airport shuttle came directly to Mirage - $9 for 2 people - great. (We already returned our car to Avis after one day). Our flight was delayed so we played slots in the airport. A lady playing max credits on Wheel of Fortune won $400. My boyfriend and I both won under $100. Advice: play max credits at the airport.

Next time in Vegas, we won%26#39;t stay at Mirage because we like to experience other hotels. We%26#39;ll do the Hilton thing or try Bellagio, Caesar%26#39;s, or Wynn.

However, I am a little confused. You talked about a time share presentation that you went to, but then warned people about time share on the strip.

But I am also confused. Why are the timeshare people that stand right inside the door to lead you to their timeshare booth considered ';hosts'; and the ones that are outside are ';hustlers';?

OK. The timeshare for Hilton Grand...is a bonafide company. My boyfriend has a time share with RCI, who exchanges with Hilton Grand... This is a company that only does business inside of Hilton hotels such as Flamingo and Bally%26#39;s. That%26#39;s why they give dinner tickets and show tickets. They would also give out 3 day/2 night stay for another program.

The people on the streets look down and out. They take the Hilton Grand...information out of hand and almost try to coerce you to try their timeshare presentation. Plus, they have a ';shuttle'; that takes you to a presentation off-site somewhere as opposed to on a property.

Restaurant Reservations @ MAG and Hugo's

I am planning to eat at these places but worry about making reservations- how early in advance should you book? Is a week ok? I do not really want to make ANOTHER bloody phone call to the states (£!) so do you think I could wait til I get to California beforehand and then make the phone call?

Hope that all made sense, I%26#39;m in a bit of a fenzy.

Depends on what night you are talking about. If it is a Sat or Sunday as far in advance as they will take them, otherwise just a couple of days is fine.

LeTigre: Hugo%26#39;s Celler has a website. You can request dinner reservations there, and they will e-mail you back with a confirmation. Not sure about MAG. Just do a double-check to see how many conventions are going on during the time you%26#39;re there. If there are any big conventions, or if you really have your heart set on eating at MAG, make your reservation now. Otherwise, upon arrival I would think that you should be able to make a lunch or dinner reservation at some point during your stay.

If you%26#39;re planning on sitting outside on the patio at MAG, you cannot make reservations. You can make reservations for the dining room, however. I prefer the patio because, even though it%26#39;s hot, they have misters to keep you cool and you have a much better view of the sidewalk below and the Bellagio Fountains across the street. The patio opens at 5 or 5:30 - if you%26#39;re there right away, they will seat you right away. If you%26#39;re a little late, you may have to wait for a table, but the good news is there are some great loose slots right by the front doors in the Paris casino to keep you occupied while you wait! Believe me, it is well worth the wait!!

I think the best hotel on the strip for the party type is NYNY many party bar type places and a generally festive casino, best shopping is caesars

I stayed at Bellagio by myself July 3-7...lot%26#39;s of fun!

Caesars Palace - good restaurants, great shopping (Forum Shops), opportunity to see good concerts, location of one of the hottest nightclubs in town (Pure), and centrally located on the strip.

I travel to Las Vegas solo often, but I am an old bat. I prefer to stay at Paris, Bellagio, Bally%26#39;s and have stayed at LVH. You sound as though you are young so my suggestion is PALMS for it%26#39;s elegance(so I hear). I am sure you will enjoy your trip.

Sorry not an informative post I know. We have 7 weeks and 2 days until we go for our honeymoon and I%26#39;m so excited! I%26#39;m just interested in who is going soon, too, so we can all be excited together, lol.

We are getting a couple%26#39;s massage the first day, going to Prime and then seeing ';O'; the second night (yes changed our minds from originally going to Mon Ami Gabi--maybe we%26#39;ll go for lunch on one of those days), and Hugo%26#39;s Cellar on the third day (which will also be my birthday!). That%26#39;s it for the itinerary as we like to be a little spontaneous. I can%26#39;t wait!:)

Well, we just got back about a month ago.

Next trip is in 11 months!

August 10th for 6 nights and 7 days. Should be easy to figure out what clothes to take with the high temps. Can%26#39;t wait!
