Seafood restaurant

What is the #1 seafood restaurant in Vegas? What is the price range I can expect to pay? 1bull

Seafood restaurant

Have never been to tell you the truth.

But consider the seafood buffet at Rio. It%26#39;s like $40-$50 I believe. But well worth it.

Seafood restaurant

#1 is hard to define. According to Zagat here are the top 10 Seafood restaurants. The ratings are from 1 to 30 in Food-Decor-Service-Price. Anything above 26 is considered superb.

1. Michael Mina 27 25 25 $67

2. Elements 25 22 26 $56

3. Palm 25 19 23 $55

4. Emeril%26#39;s 24 19 22 $51

5. Craftsteak 24 23 23 $68

6. Luxor Steakhouse 24 23 25 $50

7. 808 24 23 21 $52

8. Buzio%26#39;s 24 20 20 $44

9. Morton%26#39;s 24 22 24 $59

10. Sacred Sea Room 23 21 24 $61

The seafood buffet at the Rio is not $40-50. It is about $37. All the posts I%26#39;ve read about it have been very positive.

Here%26#39;s the information from MSN%26#39;s poll:

Captain Mike%26#39;s Fish House is a real FAVE of mine. It has a new home on the far north side of town, with the obligatory fishnets hanging on the wall, and it%26#39;s cheerier than the claustrophobic watering hole it recently moved out of.

The thick and super creamy lobster stew, fried Ipswich clams, and the New England fisherman%26#39;s platter are the most authentic this side of Hyannisport.

The enormous steamed Maine lobsters (flown in fresh daily) are prepared eight ways; baked stuffed haddock is a marvel. The location and phone number is noted below. Bone appetite!

Went to the seafood buffet at the Rio ( est. $37.00) but we had a coupon but it was well worth it. Sooooooooooooooooooooooo many selections, clean place and great desserts.

chocolate

Does anyone know if there is a ghiridellis%26#39; chocolate store in vegas? I thought there was one at Harrahs carnival court. Not sure though?

chocolate

There is! Strike It Rich Sundae here I come!

chocolate

Don%26#39;t know about ghiridellis%26#39; - but the chocolates at Jean-Philippe Patisserie in the Bellagio are wonderful. I would highly recommend them.

It is in the back area so it is easy to miss.

I%26#39;m sure there is more than one Ghiridellis%26#39; on the Strip, maybe there is one in Fashion Show Mall. They are delicious but whenever I am in the western US, it%26#39;s See%26#39;s for me, love them!

Other than Ghiradelli%26#39;s, there is Vosge Chocolat in the Forum Shoppes. It%26#39;s high quality chocolate with some unusual twists. Try the wasabi and ginger or the curry and coconut. Seriously tasty!

There is one right next to Carnival Court bar outside of Harrah%26#39;s.

There is definitely a Ghiridellis on the strip. I think it is near Harrah%26#39;s on the east side of center strip- where the sidewalk curves around in a circle and there are a bunch of kiosks on the sidewalk. Hope this helps.

Benji, there is one there, and it%26#39;s the only one in Vegas per their website.

Best/worst Cirque show

We are looking to go to either Mystere or Ka and have been reading mixed reviews on both. Have seen Zumainty and O is not playing when we go. Which one should we see, or should we not bother and go to O another time when we can see it.

Best/worst Cirque show

Mixed reviews about Mystere? I have never seen one! It is wonderful!!! Don%26#39;t hesitat to go see it and next time take in O.

Best/worst Cirque show

never heard of mixed reviews for mystere either- go to that if O is not on and come back another time and see O. Would recommend their new show- le reve at the wynn.

Seen all of the Cirque and Cirque-like (La Reve) shows....

O is by far the best.

Ka is not your typical Cirque Show. Its more story-oriented

than the traditional Cirque show. Not that its bad, its just

a change of pace for them. I found it fascinating.

Mystere is a typical Cirque show. Just plain great.

La Reve is by Dragone, the guy who used to design most of

Cirque%26#39;s shows until he went out on his own. Its a lot like O,

but on a smaller scale. We really enjoyed it, and the seats

are (IMHO) a lot better than O because they%26#39;re closer to

the action....

Hope this helps....

-cid.

Definitely go to Mystere. We%26#39;ve seen it a number of times and still love it. We were amazed by ';O';, but didn%26#39;t enjoy it nearly as much as Mystere.

I saw Mystere several years ago and was absolutely wowed as it was my first Cirque show. Went back in June and saw it again and there were definitely fewer acts and, for me, it seemed to have lost its magic. Saw O the next night and thought it was absolutely the best show I%26#39;ve ever seen anywhere. Will go back just to see it again, even tho%26#39; the tickets were $125 each. Anybody know any way to actually not pay full price at O, other than waiting at the door and taking a lftover, if there is one?

I dont get the big deal about O.

It was just a sequence of scenes with a small intermission inbetween with the clowns..

i liked Ka alot more

I%26#39;ve seen all four Cirque shows and if someone was going to give me a free ticket to Ka or Mystere I would choose Ka. Partially because I%26#39;ve seen Mystere twice, but also because I was just amazed with the show and how it was staged. I was into theatre when I was younger, so maybe that%26#39;s why the staging of O %26amp; Ka have left such an impact on me.

Either choice would be great, though. Excellent shows.

Mystere all the way!!! It is the most true to form of the CDS on the strip.,

I would definitely go with Mystere. You can come back some other time to see O.

We just saw KA in July and didn%26#39;t like it at all. My husband and I couldn%26#39;t keep our eyes open. The tilted stage is cool but the show - staging - story - all are very mediocre - don%26#39;t waste your money. We have seen mystere and loved that and liked O too.

Bottle Service Experiences - Please Post Yours

I%26#39;ve been browsing the Vegas forum for about a week and I%26#39;ve read most of the old posts regarding bottle service at clubs, so I%26#39;ve got a good feel for the basics. I%26#39;m visiting Vegas in Sept. with a group of 8 guys. We want to go out to a club Saturday night, and realize that bottle service will be the only way to go. We%26#39;re considering Body English, Mix, La Bete and Pure at this point. My main questions are:

1) Assuming the club requires 1 bottle per 3 people, and our group buys 3 bottles, will that suffice for keeping the table for the entire night? Or will we be hassled to purchase additional bottles if we finish the first 2?

2) How much do people tip the VIP hosts? Will we look like chumps if we only tip $60 or so? To me that seems perfectly adequate for someone whose only job is showing me to a table.

3) Is 18% gratuity automatically tacked on the bottle price, or do they leave this up to the discretion of the guest?

4) Anyone have any horror stories and/or recommendations on how to get the most out of the night?

Thanks in advance! I%26#39;ve learned a lot reading your posts, and I hope some of you can help shed some light on my questions.

Bottle Service Experiences - Please Post Yours

Had bottle service at Body English last August during a bachelor party. There requirment was 1 bottle per 3 people as you stated. My experience was that if you finished a bottle and did not purchase another you would see a bouncer arrive at the table to ask if you are ready to go. After not paying attention to him second bouncer arrives and says you must leave. Order more booze they go away. Next time around $100 bucks given to first bouncer was enought to make him go away. Another $100 bucks to him a short time later kept all the other bouncers and himself away. Gratuity was automatically tacked onto the bottle price. If I can remember we gave the VIP host $300 just to get a table. In my opinion it was totally not worth it. All said and done our total expense was close to 2k. We have since learnt that if you go to a lounge early before the late night crowd you can usually find a place to sit. Pay for you drinks by the round and save yourself the cash. We have had good luck at OPM at Cesears. Last time there we even got asked if we would like to move to the VIP section and didnt have to pay for bottle service. Take this for all its worth but in my opinion I was not a fan of Body English.

Bottle Service Experiences - Please Post Yours

Thanks for the informative review. Those are exactly the details I was hoping to get. Anyone else care to share?

Topping this in hopes of hearing from some more people. Thanks!

1. They%26#39;re always going to try to hustle you for more bottles, that%26#39;s how they make their money. If they%26#39;ve got people who are willing to take over your spot you%26#39;re gonna get bounced if you don%26#39;t buy any more.

2. $50 is pretty standard, if they%26#39;re good to you give them more.

3. Normally it%26#39;s added on the the tab, check your bill because some places don%26#39;t.

4. It depends on what you want out of the night. If you want a lot of attention/better service you may want to go to a smaller club, like Risque just because you%26#39;re probably going to be treated a little better since they%26#39;re not going to have a line of people waiting to take your table. If you want girls popping their tops to get to VIP go to BE. Out of all of your choices I would go to Mix le Bete, or Light.

If you have any other questions I%26#39;ll try to help.

$2000 !!!! Holy $#!%26amp; !!

And they say the Slots are the biggest ripoff in Vegas !

Thanks Shenanagans! I appreciate your reply. Have you checked out La Bete yet? I have heard that it can be hit or miss. I spoke with the VIP host and he said they%26#39;re actually closing it down for a couple months the week after we%26#39;d be there. I guess they%26#39;re launching a $2 million+ ad campaign or something for it. That makes me a bit skeptical as to how good it currently is.

I think it%26#39;s a pretty good club. I know they%26#39;ve had problems, but I know some people there so of course I%26#39;ve never had a bad experience. From what I%26#39;ve heard, the GM (or something akin to that) from Drai%26#39;s afterhours is coming over to run it so I%26#39;m sure it%26#39;s about to get a lot better. Right now it has a pretty small crowd so you may not even need to go through the hassle of bottle service to get in. I actually like Lure better, but it%26#39;s more my speed. It%26#39;s more of an ';ultra lounge'; environment, I know on Wednesdays it%26#39;s pretty good %26amp; they do bottle service, but I%26#39;m not sure what it%26#39;s like on weekends though.

i totally agree grayhorse. the real sad part of the club scene in vegas, is that you spend all that money and never can get laid.

or maybe that%26#39; just me.

I%26#39;d appreciate anyone else%26#39;s personal experiences. I can do without the commentary about how expensive it is and how ';back in your day. . .blah, blah, blah';.

Thanks!

Depends on where you go and how busy the hotel is.... But be very aware BOTTLE SERVICE IS OUTRAGOUSLY EXPENSIVE.. To give an example ... a favorite bottle of chardonnay that I get at the Liquor Store---at most is $24 dollars... I went to Tangerine and they wanted $260 for it. A bottle of Gin $400....Tips to the Girls another $100 which are usually included on bll) Some places include the mixers, some charge a set pp fee for mixers....some al a cart everything..

Was at Pure....we were not hassled and we had 3 bottles for 7 people all night. But that being said.. we were with someone who would be considered a high roller at Casears

Tipping the VIP host is at your discression....I ussually tip about $25.pp in party.

Casino Drinks?

I was at Foxwoods last weekend and the free drinks were just terrible.. everything tasted watered down.. Vegas Casino free drinks any better... At Foxwoods the beer was draft and awful also

Casino Drinks?

Dont compare foxwoods with Vegas... remember foxwoods is on a indian reservation...tighter slots....water downed drinks....no where near the excitement that vegas has to offer.

Drinks can range from very good to very bad....Tip the girls right and the drinks will be to your liking.

Casino Drinks?

Ahhhhh The Wonder of it all !!! Go to Foxwoods regularly and the whiskey sours are ok. Guess it depends on who is pouring

free casino drinks will vary depending on your mileage. If you are sitting at the race book at bellagio . . . seems you can get some premium pours there you might not get, say, humpin%26#39; the blackjack tables at Barbary Coast.

This is totally subjective, but the best ';tasting'; drinks I%26#39;ve had, or that I can remember, were at Wynn, Bellagio, and Mirage.

Worst drinks - New Frontier, Barbary Coast and Ballys.

Foxwoods couldn%26#39;t hold a candle to Vegas in any way. The drinks there totally s*ck!!! Even if you%26#39;re PAYING for them!!!

I lived in CT my whole life and I%26#39;ve been there many, many times and complained about it every time. Their drinks are premeasured shots....barely. The only way to get around it is order top shelf so they can free pour and you still have to complain!

They%26#39;re also real sticklers for the %26#39;no more than 2 drinks%26#39; in front of you at a time. I saw them turn down a guy buying 2 bottles of O%26#39;Doul%26#39;s once!!!! The bartender insisted it has a ';little'; alcohol in it. Whatever.

Mohegan Sun blows them away now since they expanded. Don%26#39;t waste your time at Foxwoods anymore. Better yet, just go to Vegas!!

Thanks for the input we are heading to Vegas for the 1st time. We have three couples going and one of them has been there a few times for conventions, we leave on Thursday am.

Show Seating

Hi

Can anyone clarify what “General Seating” means when book a Vegas show?

Thanks in advance

Ben

Show Seating

Usually means sit anywhere, first come first served .

Some show are entirely general seating. Other shows have different levels of reserved seating and general seating, with the general seating being the less desirable seats.

Show Seating

Thx for the reply Fish

Which is better FIsh house or Steakhouse hard decision

    Emerills

You will be delighted with either choice.

    Emerills

What do you want fish or steak?

Where are they located? I would love to try one.

left to my own devices to guess at the non-existent details the orginator of this post failed to include, assuming he/she meant Emerils New Orleans Fish House - is in the MGM Grand, and the Steakhouse is in Circus Circus.

but hey, thats just my read on it.

Fish House at MGM is the whole package, great food AND terrific/friendly service. And try the awesome Bannana Cream Pie. I never thought a slice of pie could be worth $7 til I went there. It%26#39;s big enough to share.

His steak house in Vegas is called Delmonicos. It%26#39;s at the Venetian. The steak is excellent, but that%26#39;s not unique in Vegas. In fact, I think Mon Ami Gabi is better and a better deal. Also the service at Delmonicos was very snooty, when I went there. So much so that I won%26#39;t be back.

    Thank you pal plenti

    what is dry heat?

everyone talks about the dry heat? is there like no air at all?

it is pretty humid here tonight, dont much like that.

    what is dry heat?

no humidity at all......when you get out of the shower the next time, instead of using your hairdryer on your hair....turn it on hot and high speed, and aim it at your face...thats Vegas in July and August :)

    what is dry heat?

what about on a night time? is it still nasty to be out side?

yeah, when we were in vegas listening to the news report/ weather we heard ';humidity level at 5% today';. Living in wisconsin and having humidity levels of 40 and above we were quite shocked.

believe it or not we found it much more comfortable to be outside at night compared to the daytime.

Vegas dry heat (and southwestern desert heat in general) is a big upgrade weather-wise for anyone sick and tired of humid hot weather (as I am and apparently you are, too).

Just be careful with the sun exposure, that%26#39;s all.

Desert temps can drop as much as 30 degrees at night; it can be 110 in the daytime and 80 after dark When the sun goes down, the air cools off and it becomes very pleasant outside.

well, nights are cooler, but it%26#39;s all relative...if you%26#39;ve been out when it%26#39;s 110, 90 suddenly feels cooler? umm no not usually...its just that you can breathe easier.

I had the same question. I was in Vegas for the first time last week. Yes, there is much less humidity. The two suprises for me were 1) in Michigan when it is hot, a breeze is cool. In Vegas the breeze felt like someone opened the oven door. 2) the sun is very intense. I was only out in the sun for about 20 minutes and got quite a good tan.

With ';dry heat'; in Las Vegas, when you get out of the pool, you will actually dry off in a few minutes without having to wipe yourself off with a towel.

With high humidity areas, the body still feels moist when you get out of the pool and it takes longer to dry off.

in dry heat, evaporating sweat actually cools you. you will be chilly when you get out of the pool. the heat doesn%26#39;t linger after dark.

here in austin, it%26#39;s almost as hot in the middle of the night as it is in the middle of the day and you spend the whole day soaked in sweat because it doesn%26#39;t evaporate. when you get out of the pool, you just stay wet.

    Best piano bar???

My wife and I would love to go to one this week out in Vegas. Any suggestions?

    Best piano bar???

I%26#39;ve been told that there is one at NYNY

    Best piano bar???

My wife and I loved the one at Harrah%26#39;s, the two ladies Kim and Tammera were awesome. They are there Tuesday through Saturday starting at 9pm. You can stand outside the bar a watch the show and not pay the outragious prices for beverages. We hung out there everynight for a couple of hours and had a blast. We did not vist the other piano bars but we loved Kim and Tammera.

I enjoyed the deuling pianos at NYNY.

The one at Harra%26#39;s is awesome, check it out.

i believe there is one at Naploleons bar in the Paris

tottie, I think Napolean%26#39;s lounge has dueling piano%26#39;s now. The dueling pianos have become popular. Does Bellagio have a piano lounge just off the lobby as you enter the casino?

    What exactly are comps

Sorry if i sound stupid. We`ve been to vegas 10 times. (from England). Usually play mainly slots. Always book hotel in advance. So how do you get these comps that everyone seems to talk about. We will be coming again on 8/28. for 2 weeks, staying at Alladin. Can`t wait.

    What exactly are comps

you need to first sign up for a players card. Comps are free items recieved. This is determined by the amount you play. There are two types of comps...Slots and Tables. Put the card in the slot machine and the computer will generate calculations based on the coin-in...fo you play nickel, quarter, dollar (etc) slots, and the amount of time you played... Comps usually take time to add up.. such as free lunch...free rooms.

Table comps are a bit different...you need to get ';rated'; Most casinos on the strip will not rate you unless you average over $25 a hand. Then it is possible to get a free lunch after few hours a play...

Also by signing up for the players cards.. you will gets lots of offers via email. For future stays.

    What exactly are comps

sign up for players cards in every casino and use them allways when you play slots. You would be getting $79 a night rates at the aladdin with the card, or maybe even free nights depending on your play. What you want to do is give the casinos your address and email address for offers. Then you eventually book thru the players club or casino marketing instead of the hotel desk.

Thanks for that. I do usually sign up for a players card but didn`t know you could get all this stuff with them. Will take more care of my card in future.

if you have used your player cards at the various casino%26#39;s, when you get to Vegas this next time, go with your card to the slot host or whatever it is called area and have them run it through their computers, you might already have some comps that you don%26#39;t know about. However, points earned on the cards for getting comps are usually only good for a period of around 18 months.

If you have ever had a free drink while playing, you received a comp.

Thanks everyone. I think I understand what you are talking about now. Will sign up as soon as I get there. Love the free drinks, Vegashomeboy, but always tip the waitress, cos she keeps comin` back if you do!!!!

Getting comps depends on what game you play, what your average wager is and how much time you spend playing. Different games have different house advantages (the amount of money the casino expects to make on you for each wager you make) so different games will get you different comps more quickly than others.

Playing $25/hand at blackjack may seem like a lot of money, but the house advantage is very low so you%26#39;ll have to bump the bets up to $50 and put in about three three hour sessions in a day before getting comped beyond dinner and a show. However, if you play $1 slots and always bet max credits ($2-$3) and play for a decent stretch, expect to get freebie rooms, show tickets and ';free cash'; offers in the mail. Some casinos want your business more than others, the ones that are a bit further off the beaten trail will lavish you with offers more often than ones in the heart of the strip if the action you%26#39;re giving them is borderline.

If your casino mailer comes in an envelope its got something good inside, if its a postcard or fold out - its cat box liner.

Get a players club card and play dollar Wheel of Fortune at Stardust or Riviera for two hours... you%26#39;ll start getting room freebies two months later. You may drop 300 bucks in the short term, but you%26#39;ll get a 2 nights free room offer every coupla months. It pays for itself eventually - as long as you continue to give them action at your bankroll.

Thanks chuckmonster. That gives me a good explanation.

    50th birthday trip to Vegas

My daughter turned 21 in March and I turned 50 August 1, so a trip to Vegas was our celebration. My husband and her boyfriend (whom we love!) also came. Booked our trip in March through American Airlines. I had accumulated enough points for a reduction on their vacation prices, so our 3 night stay at the Flamingo plus our flight for 4 people was only $1100!! I thought that was a great deal.

Sunday, July 31 - Left Shreveport Louisiana at 7 am and it was my daughter and her boyfriend%26#39;s first flight. Really exciting watching someone experience that for the first time! Went through Dallas and then to Vegas. Arrived at 9:30 am, so we had the whole day. I had rented a car from Dollar and it was $65 for the whole 3 days! What a bargain. Checked in at the Flamingo and made it to our rooms on the 17 floor. We had stayed at the Flamingo before and liked it. It is more personal and not so cavernous as some others. We were starving, so we ate at the 24 hour cafe, Tropical Breeze. Their %26#39;wraps%26#39; were pretty good. I had the Hawaiian Chicken wrap.

We then took in the pool - very crowded. Wall to wall people, but I think this was mainly because it was almost 2 for 1 happy hour! The sun was not out, so we went up to the room to clean up. Explored the strip a bit and took in the Improv at Harrah%26#39;s. I am the coupon queen, so we had 2 for 1 admission. Very much worth it! Daughter and boyfriend loved it. Saw fountains at Bellagio and their fabulous blown glass ceiling in lobby. Gambled a bit back at the Flamingo, and then turned in.

Monday, Aug 1 - MY BIRTHDAY! We let the kids sleep in a bit, and my husband and I went to Terrible%26#39;s for breakfast. This is off the strip, and of course, I had a coupon book from the internet. (I%26#39;ll tell you later where to get this stuff). The coupon book had 2 free buffet coupons (buy one and get one free). The breakfast buffet is perfectly adequate and costs only $4.99, so breakfast for both of us was only around $5. We later went downstairs to apply for 2 of their player cards and were given 2 more coupon books! More meals!! Gambled a bit and then went back to the Flamingo, where the kids were ready for Hoover Dam. Its a good 30 - 45 minute drive, but worth it. Super hot up there! On the way back, we stopped at Ellis Island for dinner. Again, a bargain. Their steak dinner which is not on the menu, is only $4.99. It comes with a great salad, potato, and green beans. Both of us ate for around $12. We are both school teachers, so we are not swimming in the dough! But we have a good time. Later went to the Stratosphere where the rest of my party went up to the top and went on those crazy rides!! I opted for an hour or so down in the casino. I am not a daredevil, but they enjoyed it. I would have had a heart attack!

Went back to the room and got cleaned up because we had tickets to Blue Man Group at the Luxor. We were in the poncho section, which means you are issued a plastic poncho if you sit in the first 5 rows (we were in the 3rd). Excellent performance - very unusual, but I suspect some people would not %26#39;get it%26#39;. My husband and I both teach art and my daughter is an art major, so we thoroughly enjoyed it. Not a word is spoken, and creativity abounds! After BMG, we took the tram to NYNY because ----- I had free passes to Coyote Ugly ( again off the internet). I had said that I would dance on the bar at CO for my 50th BD and I did! My daughter and I got up and danced together for a few seconds while my husband recorded it as proof! What I didn%26#39;t expect were the %26#39;shots%26#39; we were given - I am not a real drinker. But believe me, this stuff was like snowcone syrup. Couldn%26#39;t taste any alcohol and didn%26#39;t affect either of us. Boy, was I glad about that! We gambled a bit and turned in for the night. My husband always poops out before me, so he goes up to bed and I stay downstairs in the casino and play the penny slots for a while.

Tuesday, August 3 - My husband and I got up, got in the car and went back to Terribles for another $5 breakfast. Came back to the Flamingo and spent the day at the pool. Got cleaned up, and walked down to the Paris where we had a wonderful chocolate tart and coffee at a little pastry shop. Walked to the Aladdin where I was on a mission to buy my mom some earrings. (She had come up from New Orleans to stay with my son, so I wanted to get her something nice) There is a jewelry shop on the north side of the Desert Passage where I always buy something. Everything is 50% off and it is wonderful!! After this, we picked up the kids and went back to Terrible%26#39;s for 2 for 1 dinners. Coupons again! They are both college kids so they wanted to save where they could. We then went downtown for the Fremont Street Experience. Saw two shows (these are free, if you didn%26#39;t know), explored a bit, my daughter bought her obligatory souvenirs, and we went back to the Flamingo. On the way back, we saw the volcano erupt at eh Mirage. We were still in the car, so that was convenient. Back at the Flamingo, my husband went to bed and I gambled until 3. The kids went on their own to Caesar%26#39;s and then down to the Barbary Coast where Michael played blackjack.

Wed, Aug 3 - Time to come home - how sad. Left Vegas at 12:30 PM and arrived back in Shreveport at 10 pm.

I am glad to say that I have booked another trip to Vegas, this time for New Year%26#39;s Eve!! We will be staying off the strip at the Gold Coast.

    Tips:

    1) Check out Vegas Resource.com for your coupons. This is where I got all of mine. You just check off which ones you want and pay a little fee, and they come to your door! Shows, meals, whatever!! Its definately worth it.

    2) Have a roll of dollar bills for tips. I had 20 and had just enough.

    3) If you can afford a car, get one! Valet parking is free, just tip the attendant. It really saves your feet!! Our car was $14.00 a day though Dollar.

    4) When you get to Vegas, there are tourist magazines everywhere which have coupons in them. I already have several for our New Year%26#39;s trip.

Thanks for reading all of this - this was our 5th trip to Sin City and we love it! Enjoy your trip!!

    50th birthday trip to Vegas

    Great report, thanks!

    50th birthday trip to Vegas

Mrsq - First off, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you and your daughter. I enjoyed reading your report, and it%26#39;s great to hear you had a wonderful time. And I have to give you a ';shout out'; for dancing on the bar at Coyote Ugly - Way to go!!!!

Also, great idea to include tips at the end of your trip report.

    Spa at Venetian

We%26#39;re heading out to the Venetian later this summer. I%26#39;ve thought about doing a spa day with my wife. Not sure the pricing, or the services. Any ideas? We dont want to go down there and spend too much money, but we want to enjoy it too. What services would you recommend? How much money are you talking?

    Spa at Venetian

jagwood- The spa that is in the Venetian is The Canyon Ranch Spa. You can reach their wesite through venetian.com or directly through canyonranch.com. I think their prices are a bit on the high side. IMHO

    Spa at Venetian

I don%26#39;t know about Canyon Ranch at The Venetian but I do know about Canyone Ranch!! Best week of my life was spent at their Tucson, AZ location 4 years ago. It is expensive but well worth it. Canyon Ranch is worl renowned, take advantage!!

Have a hot stone massage, they are heavenly!!! Or, try the head, neck, shoulder 30 min massage, also great!

Canyon Ranch is quite pricey, however about the same as any other spa on the strip. What makes them different is that the tip is included in the price of any bodywork - so even if the prices seem lower elsewhere, once you factor in the 15-20% you should tip, it%26#39;s the same amount.

Be prepared tho. We spent a nearly $500 for an 80 minutes couples massage but I know they have 50 minute sessions too, which may be enough for you and your wife. We just happen to be have found, for us, 50 minutes isn%26#39;t enough.

You should splurge at least once tho :-) Shop around. All the hotels on the strip have websites with links to their spas and most have menus w/prices to download.

We have been to the spa at the Venetian numerous times. My husband actually more than I have as he enjoys massages and I don%26#39;t really. He has enjoyed immensely every massage he%26#39;s ever gotten there. I have had my nails done and hair styled there a few times. Every time the experience has been good but it is very pricey, even in comparison to other exceptional spas on the strip. That hasn%26#39;t stopped us though. When we stay at the Venetian, we use their spa, when we stay at Caesar%26#39;s we use theirs. All spas are expensive but we ';treat'; ourselves to little things like this a couple of times a year. It makes the whole vacation experience just seem a little sweeter.

Gabby - Have you had the head, neck, shoulder massage? Do you have to get undressed for that one? I find that very uncomfortable but would love to have a massage.

    Gay Leon,

I am not surpraised you fell uncomfortable get naked.

gayleonthenet, the head, neck and shoulder massage is awesome, at least the two I had at the Canyon Ranch in Tucson were. No, you don%26#39;t have to be naked. You will put on a robe/smock of sorts so all but your head, neck, shoulders and part of your back are exposed.

dealem, if you don%26#39;t have anything positive to say then please STFU.

gayleoonthenet - Gabby%26#39;s right, they will give you a robe, so no need to feel uncomfortable. Also, you will totally enjoy the massage, what a relaxing feeling. If you do the massage, please post about it, I would love to hear your thoughts.

Gabby - I can%26#39;t agree with you more about the poster called Dealem. He hasn%26#39;t contributed one positive comment to the forum. I think he%26#39;s a troll and he gets sometype of satisfaction at being rude and offensive. You are always helpful and contribute greatly to the forum. Ignore him!!!

    SS

Not to worry Susan, I don%26#39;t take troll bait. ;)

i would like to know any ideas for an impressive restaurant on the strip for around 50 per person

any info on prices at the wynn restaurants

    thanks

    restaurant

maier1, you are going to London and also Las Vegas and are worried about price?? Odd.

If you want to know pricing on restaurants, go to the various hotel websites, you can find what you want to know there.

    restaurant

There are many restaurants in your price range. What type of impressive are you looking for? Great food, atmosphere, view? Where are you staying? There may be some restaurants that meet your needs. Also, does your price include alcoholic beverages?

Skip the Wynn Restuarants.... Had Dinner at both Corsa and Wing Lei, without appitizer, drinks, and dessert they were about $50.00.

There are so many nice places to go. Again, depends on your taste

BTW the $50.00 for entree and sides per person at the two restaurants mentioned above

1st stay at mirage coming up this month?

Have gambled and ate their many times, but never got a great comp, until now. Great location on strip, but I also like to gamble at Mandalay. My last trip in April was at MGM, with the same great comp and closer to Mandalay. I thought I would try Mirage this time! I wasn%26#39;t happy about the no smoking section policy at the Mirage Buffet, so I will just eat elsewhere.

1st stay at mirage coming up this month?

Rooms are nice, bathrooms are very small, no clubs there. Pool is out of this world. Never had a problem with staff, always friendly and professional.

1st stay at mirage coming up this month?

Our first time to stay there as well 2 weeks from today. ALways played and drank there as we love the atmosphere. Looking forward to the pool and the great cocktails.

    Rooms at Rio

We are staying at the Rio Aug.15-19. Any suggestions as to which tower to try for?

    Rooms at Rio

Overall the Masquarade Tower is newer and the most of the rooms are still pretty nice. You would be closer to the skyshow, the seafood buffet and the Voodoo Lounge entrance. The Ipenema Tower is easier get to from the main lobby but they are remodelling it right now. From what I hear the old rooms are in bad shaped but I stayed in a new room in the Ipenema Tower and it was lovely.

    Rooms at Rio

Thank you Leo for your help. We are taking another trip Oct.3-10 and staying at CircusCircus. Made all those plans before I started reading this forum. Booked through Travelicity and can%26#39;t change, but we do have a tower room at least. Wish us luck!!

Just got back from the Rio and stayed in the older Ipanema Tower. Our room was very nice except room 1138 has a view only of the A/C units and parking lot. We would have loved our room if it had a better view, but if you shut the drapes, we couldn%26#39;t complain about a thing.

Also, the Ipanema tower is closer access to the pool, so you don%26#39;t walk through as much of the casino with you swim suit on - if you care abou that sort of thing.

No we don%26#39;t swim. Don%26#39;t have the BODY for the pool. But it%26#39;s good to know that your room was O.K. Thanks for the input!!

    The Spa at TI

Has anyone been to it and your impression?

    The Spa at TI

I am interested in this too so

    BUMP

    The Spa at TI

I was at the TI spa about 2 years ago with a friend. We had a great time and the staff was very friendly. They seem to be one of the less expensive spas on the strip too.

The spa is nice...very quiet and relaxing.... however it is limited on services

A quick walk across the street is Canyon Ranch at the Venetian.. This spa is huge and there are alot of people. But they have an array of services. My favorite is there..It is a Moisturizing Caccon. REleives extra dry skin in a very relaxing (nite-nite) way.

I was there in February. I got a Light Therapy Bath and a 30 min massage. It was a special there were running at the time. It was very nice and the staff was nice too.

We went last year and LOVED it!!!

The services are fine but it isn%26#39;t as much as an ';experience'; as some of the others. But then it is also cheaper.

    cool thanks for the info

We stayed here in March and I wandered down to the spa to check out the services and book something.

The girl behind the desk was eating a sandwich and her food was all over the desk. She had peeling nailpolish on with dirt under her fingernails.

I know she probably wasn%26#39;t having her best day, but she was hardly able to tell me what the different packages meant and went on and on about how bad HER skin was.

I ended up not booking anything. The spa might be good, but I was so put off that I decided the risk wasn%26#39;t worth the money.

    safety

i would like to know your oppinions on my 21 year old doughter and my 14 year old son going to las vegas alone for one night and staying at a room at the venetian? is the venetian safe and is las vegas safe?

    thanks

    safety

Venetian and the Las Vegas strip are safe, just have to be sensible in who you meet and where you decide to romp off strip to. - but know your 14 y.o. son will be very limited in what and where he can go and do.

    safety

Your children would be traveling to Las Vegas on their own or you would be leaving them alone in the room while you and your wife go out in the evening?

The strip is very safe as long as they use common sense- don%26#39;t flash a lot of money, be careful about pickpockets near attractions, etc. You are the only one who knows how mature your children are and whether or not they can be trusted to ';do the right thing'; and stay out of trouble. Is the 21 year old going to go off to do her own thing and leave the 14 year old alone? There are a lot of temptations in Vegas.

The Venetian is very safe, and up until pretty late and night, there%26#39;s a lot of wandering around in the mall or going to Madame Tussauds or eating that they can do without really going anywhere else.

Is Las Vegas safe? Yeah, if you happen to not be in the wrong place at the wrong time. And, also if you don%26#39;t leave your valuables vulnerable. I think that%26#39;s the main thing. If you%26#39;re just an average person walking around in a casino/hotel, the main thing is to watch your wallet/purse at ALL times.

You%26#39;re not expecting them to stay in their room all night...are you???? :-)

    amazing jonathan

group of 10, late 20s, thinking about going. yes ,no any other ideas for a show?

    amazing jonathan

Saw him a couple of weeks back--HILARIOUS! Great gags, a ditzy blonde sidekick named psychic Tonya, audience participation and more. Very adult and very outrageous. Laughed so hard I almost peed myself. Well worth the $$$.

One tip--get your tix the day of the show at one of the half-price ticket places. We got $55 VIP Seats for $27.50 and sat just a few rows back.

    Enjoy!

    amazing jonathan

Yes go to this show. I am in the same age range and we loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Where is amazing jonathan performing

    bronxbabe,

    Have a look here

mardog - I saw the show last year, and you should go. I think you will really enjoy it. The tickets are reasonably priced. We saw his show at the Flamingo and I believe it is still there.

    Enjoy!

AJ is at the Sahara. Take the monorail down--it%26#39;s the last stop. Very convenient and a lot cheaper than a cab ride.

jbird - Thanks for the update on AJ

  • trip report 7/24-7/28

Our trip lasted 5 days and even though we stayed longer this time it is still a blurrrrr - why? we were always ( and I mean always) on the go. First two nights we stayed at TI. The room was okay and our view was of the strip/pool. Speaking of the pool ... it was extrememly tooooooooooooooooooooooo small!!!!! One of our goals while we were there was to get a chip from each casino - wellllllllllll that was alot of work. We never made it to downtown to those hotels. The water show at the Bellagio was fantastic!!!! Also saw Pete Rose at Cesaers, and no he wasn%26#39;t gambling ( hee hee). Just signing autographs.

We did ride the monorail which was nice and I loved those escalators and over passes ( bridges that go over the roads).

Our last two nights we stayed at the Rio. Our room was free because we were invited to the slot tournament. Plus you have 4 pools to choose from. Much nicer place. We had stayed there last summer and really liked it . The seafood buffet was fantastic!!!!!!!!! We did go see the show Skintight at Harrahs. It was very good and interesting. We did discover a great table game that we do not have here in St. Louis called 3,5,7. We decided to skip playing slots cause we could do those here and strickly play 3,5,7. and we did really well.

The time difference did really get to us because the first night we crashed at 10:30 ( Bummer). We did walk alot but we also rented a car and kinda had a good idea on how to get around . The rest of the nights we were up till 3a.m. ( that would be 5 a.m. CST). When we got back home it probably took 3 days for me to kinda recover from everything.

In our opinion we love staying at the Rio. It is off the beatin path and has a great atmosphere to it. Even though it was very hot we had a GREAT time and looking forward to going back.

    trip report 7/24-7/28

    What is 3-5-7?

I have to say that RIO has one of the better pools in Vegas and probably even better than Flamingo.

It is so spacious and comfortable.

The only gripe that I have about the pool is that the sand on the man-made beach is too hot !

    trip report 7/24-7/28

Vegas2together - Thanks for the trip report. I%26#39;ve never stayed at the Rio but have gambled there. Are all the rooms at the Rio considered suites? I know the term suite is very subjective in LV, but I thought they had larger rooms.

    What%26#39;s 3,5,77?

As far as Pete Rose goes, let Charlie Hustle into Cooperstown already!

    vegas2gether...

please let me know about the 3,5,7. I%26#39;m up for a game to replace slots, VP and BJ.

Pete Rose in Vegas....Awesome...That%26#39;s funnier than finding Rafael Palmero in a Pharmacy in Tijuana.

    St louis - LOL!

Hey Susan ...... What ya got against St. Louis? Anyhow.....

for thes rest of you 3,5,7 is a table game (poker). It is very similiar to 3 card poker. Very easy and really a non thinking game for those of us that don%26#39;t want to think. Your trying to match your cards up with the dealers. As for as the rooms go at the Rio they are much larger ( compared to the room we had at TI) I guess because they refer to them as a suite. They also had a refrig. in them to keep you refreshments cool :)))))

    I agree let Pete In!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

vegas2tpgether - I have nothing against St. Louis. I don%26#39;t know how you got that from my post, but I was supporting the post. I found it funny. Sorry if you took it the wrong way, no harm intended.

Since there are some in the Baesball Hall of Fame that are/were steroid users, I think they need to take a look and let Pete in too.

Hey Susan - no harm done :)))) I also agree let Pete in!!!!!

vegas2 - BYW, thanks for the info on 3,5,7 and the rooms @ the Rio. It was most helpful!

The best place to play black jack (best odds)

I am going with my family next week and my dad is an avid BJ player. He hasn%26#39;t been to Vegas in many many years but when he used to go a lot, he would usually play at Binions and other places downtown. Since places tend to change and odds tend to change, could anyone enlighten me as to where the best place is to play BJ now either on or off the strip?

The best place to play black jack (best odds)

I will be there next week also. The best places to play BJ downtown are the Plaza, Las Vegas Club, Western. Remember, the Western is down the street from the Freemont experience and with the heat and surrounding neighborhood, I would be careful walking it. Do not play the 6 to 5 rip-off single deck blackjack games. The house odds increase tremendously. Last I heard, Binion%26#39;s had the 6 to 5 rip-off game near the door by Freemont. They have had a real single deck BJ game in the back of the casino off and on. Other options could be the El Cortez or Gold Spike.

On the strip, the better games are usually at a higher limits than downtown ($25 - $50 dollar minimums). I am sure your dad will find a good game and win some big bucks.

Hope you and your dad have a good time.

    Shows in Vegas

My husband and I are going to Vegas to celebrate our anniversary in September. Can anyone recommend a show we can see without breaking the bank?

    Shows in Vegas

GOOD shows are DANNY GANS, MYSTERE%26#39; or ';';O';';.

    make reservations--- Now--- Asap.

    Shows in Vegas

Without a doubt, We Will Rock You at the Paris.

Since cost is a factor, consider Clint Holmes. He%26#39;s really good and you can find a 241 coupon for him easily or pick up tickets at a 1/2 shop.

Clint Holmes is great...We saw him a couple of years ago....

We have been going to Vegas for the past ten years and the best show I have seen and there have been many has been Danny Gans he is worth every penny

    Please define what is ';breaking the bank';

    Under $75.00.

Danny Gans, Mystere, or Rita Rudner.

Is Rita Rudner a regular at the Mirage???

I think Rudner%26#39;s at the NYNY.

    Mytravel flights

Anyone travelled Mytravel flights from Manchester to LV? What are they like? Any advice? Thanks

    Mytravel flights

    patt,

not yet, but i will be in 5 weeks time. I%26#39;ll let you know.

    Mytravel flights

Don%26#39;t know about flying to Vegas but I went to Mexico and later Dominican Republic with them 2 years ago. we flew in new Airbus aircraft. They cram you in and the flight entertainment is poor - you have to pay for headsets. We had good holidays but dreaded the flights back. We have not been with them since - but overall the holidays were excellent value for money so we have no complaints. You get what you pay for!!!

I am sorry I can%26#39;t give you a more positive comment but it was pretty awful and we are not huge people, we were so cramped. We try to travel on scheduled flights on all long haul journeys now and that has proved to be brilliant and very good value.

It is nothing to worry about but flying for that length of time without creature comforts spoilt those trips.

    pattikins

We%26#39;ve gone to Vegas for the past two years with My Travel and thought they were fine for the price. We like going with them because they fly direct from Manchester.

I would suggest that you take some sandwiches or snacks with you as they only serve one meal and that%26#39;s quite early on in the flight. We also just take our headphones that we bought two years ago.

    When are you going?

    Have a great time.

message for Hever-- Thanks Hever, thats the kind of advice I was looking for. We are going on October 23[ myself, husband, son , daughter-in-law and--dare I say this, 2 small children!!]It will be our 5th visit but their 1st but we are used to doing long haul with them--Florida every December, but usually with Virgin.

Why don`t you pay the extra for an upgrade, its still cheaper than most airlines. I`ve done airtours and it is a bit cramped and basic but the upgrade sorts out this problem.

try united vacations. give them on call as there internet rates are often higher than what they will do on the phone. the planes are much more comfy!

    pattikins,

We%26#39;re going 12th October for two weeks and staying at the Luxor, where are you staying? You never know,we may meet each other.

    Hev

Flew wih them june last year and I have to say it was the worst flight I have ever had but only because the seat pitch is a minimum 28'; and we are not the smallest of people and 11hours is along time flighing with AA this time seat pitch 34'; big difference If you are small people Im sure you will love it.

we are going with them on Wednesday so I will let you know when I come back what they are like....HEVER thanks for the tips on another post we will bring a few snacks with us!!!

    mari,

    Have a great time.

    Hope the flight is good.

    The Palms

    Hey all,

I just did a search on Orbitz for the Palms from Sept 29-Oct 3 and was quoted a price of 533.28. This seems a little hokie, looking for thoughts on this. Thanks

    The Palms

Keep searching the prices........Promos always come up.Good Luck.

    The Palms

Try going to the palms web site or calling and asking if they have specials.

    Vegas

opps cancel that idea i just check for you and came up with 956.00. The rates do get higher as you get closer to your arrival date. Try the Rio it%26#39;s only a mile or less away and very nice.

    Vegas

Was that for one night? Or the whole stay? When I check I get an average rate of $118.75 per night. Funny things happen on these websites. When I was looking at hotels for a Mexican vacation one of the hotels showed a room rate of over $500,000.00 per night.

  • trip report 8/1-8/5

stayed at caesars roman tower room was average but clean they offered at desk palace tower for 100 more a night, i was there for 4 nights. if anyone going to caesars and the room is important to you i would upgrade to palace tower. the new augustus tower is not open yet..i think it opens the end of august. also we ate at the buffet at cafe lago 2 times[breakfast] the first time was at 2am and it was nothing special, we gave it another try at 10 am. still the same..next day we went to stage deli in forum shops..much better..only difference was no table overlooking the pool like you can get at cafe lago..all in all caesars was fine i had family with me, wife and daughter love the pool. i cant tell you what i think because i went out there once for about 5 min..not overly crowded ..also took a walk to wynn for first time its nice, if you like craps i like it better than caesars, more tables little more action

    trip report 8/1-8/5

They wanted $100 more per each night to upgrade you from the Roman Tower to the Palace Tower? Good thing you said no because it is only $30 a night difference when you book through the Caesars Palace website. It is also $30 a night more to upgrade from the Palace Tower to the new Augustus Tower (which would dmake teh Augustus $60 a night more than the Roman Tower). You would give you a deal on last minute upgrades rather than try to charge you MORE than the going rate.

    trip report 8/1-8/5

The going rate changes constantly, at the time he was there it would have been the $100 more per night that he was quoted. The hotels don%26#39;t charge more than what their own going rate is.

    Tennis in LV

I will staying at TI in August, and just noticed that there is no mention of tennis courts at that hotel. Are there any other public courts I can get a match or two in? Can I play at other casino%26#39;s courts, from the same chain MGM, or do I have to stay there to enjoy that privilege?

Yes I will be playing at like 6h00am to avoid the heat.

    Tennis in LV

Try The FLAMINGO, I know they use to have courts ,I think they still do.

    Tennis in LV

    Mike,

If you find out, please let me know %26amp; I can join you.

    I%26#39;m just a lowly 3.0 player though.

Actually, I just realized I%26#39;ll probably be staying at the Las Vegas Hilton, which has its own tennis courts! Feel free to head over to the Hilton, if you%26#39;d like. Maybe we can arrange some mixed doubles.

You want to play tennis in August in Las Vegas? When you reserve your court, make sure they reserve an ambulance for 40 minutes after you start playing.

uottawamike, check with TI, if they don%26#39;t have courts they may have an agreement with another hotel for guests to play tennis.

    Rates

When can you get the rates for next may? Most websites don%26#39;t list anything yet?

    Rates

I%26#39;m not sure when they post them up, it may not be until about 6 months in advance and specials for the spring season usually are put up only 8-12 weeks before. May is a busy convention time so not sure how many specials there might be. Alot depends on exactly what type of hotel you want to stay in and whether you want on or off strip or downtown as your location while in LV.

    Best adult show

We are coming to vegas on the 27th of august for a few days as part of our honeymoon.I would like to go to an adult show as I know my husband would really like it as he has never been to such a show.Which one would you suggest?I have read about erocktica, crazy girls, showgirls of magic and X.Any suggestions between these? Are there any others?Would we have to book tickets in advance and if yes how early?Thanx to any advice

    Best adult show

Midnight Fantasy at Luxor is very enjoyable. In addition to lots of well-executed topless dance numbers it has a very funny comedienne, an excellent tap dancer and a good singer. Of the adult shows I%26#39;ve seen in LV, it%26#39;s the one I%26#39;d see again.

Jubilee is stupid. Avoid that one.

    Best adult show

Hmmmm, You sound experienced. why not u perform for your ';';new';'; husband in your hotel room. Save money for a nice, fancy dinner.

Go see ';';la Cage';'; , if u must.

erocktica was GOD AWFUL! That Versace gal is NASTY, and all the ';dancers'; can%26#39;t dance and have really gross looking silicon parts. The band is okay, but is an okay band, terrible script, and gross dancers worth the $25 discount ticket price? Nah.. I do suggest the voodoo lounge patio though. Worth whatever you pay to get up there just for the photo op alone.

My boyfriend and I enjoyed Bite at the Stratosphere. It was a vampire rock dance show.

All the members of the cast were beautiful and there was some elements of magic and high flying in it. it was a lot of fun.

I enjoy scanning the windows of the various hotel properties with my binoculars.

Midnight Fantasy at Luxor is great. Sexy and funny and the room is smallish and intimate. And getting tix 5 minutes before is no problem.

Forget ';Crazy Girls'; ...it is a very poor show. Not worth going to ...even if it is free.

October Moon, is that because you never leave your room and stay on your laptop the whole time???

I%26#39;m wondering if you are on this forum 24/7 when you%26#39;re in Vegas the same way you are every other day of the year?

Hello my little obsessed stalker! It%26#39;s funny how you complain about the amount of time I spend here when, this morning alone you have 4 posts with (as usual) no substance whatsoever!

I%26#39;ve told you before: You cannot have me, I prefer the company of women.

Now, scamper along and do whatever it is you folks in Compton With An Ocean View do.

    Scamper along?

You weren%26#39;t saying that before.... now I give you a little attention and you want to shoo me away???

    Cigars

Last time I visited Vegas I went to a shop called Don Pablo near the Peppermill and the cigars were good, has anyone else had good experience there and can u maybe suggest another place to buy good value cigars?

    Cigars

GOOD VALUE does not sound good. Caesars has an over-priced smoke store.

    Go back to Don Pablo if you enjoyed his ';';CIGARS';';

    Cigars

When I say good value I mean a cigar that cost $20 in England was $7 in Don Pablo and it is a really nice cigar.

I am looking to buy a humidor, does anyone know where to purchase a real nice one?

    brfcfan,

    Try JRCigar.com

This is a mail order company in North Carolina. Cheapest cigars I have found. Not sure what your requirements are for delicery or shipping to the UK.

    Best of Luck Chap

Don Pablo%26#39;s is where I go to buy cigars for my Father-in-law. He says they are as good or better than any he has gotten from the Dominican or Honduras. Not as good as those direct from Cuba, but you can%26#39;t buy them legally in the States.

Shipping merchandise to the UK can be costly if done by the stores. Since I travel back and forth all the time from the US to London, I always have a 2nd suitcase on the way over bulging with things for those in the UK who want things from the US since they are cheaper there.

I notice you are from Tunbridge Wells, we are coming your way within the next week or so, looking to relocate from NW London and TW is on our short list of places to check out.

    Thank for all your replies.

I have just moved from Tunbridge Wells to Sevenoaks. Both are very nice places and worth visiting.

That is what I have heard. You never know, you could have me as a neighbor, you will know if you hear an American accent. ;)

    Palace Tower at Caesars

is it worth the extra money?

    Palace Tower at Caesars

i just got back from caesars i stayed in roman tower room was average but clean no problems , but if money is not an issue and the room is important to you i would upgrade. good luck

    Palace Tower at Caesars

I would suggest reserving the lowest rate room and then trying the $20 trick for an upgrade when you check-in. I understand this works very well at Caesar%26#39;s because they have so many different types of rooms and they are no longer considered in the upper echelon of hotel/casino properties in town.

In answer to your question, yes. However, if you do reserve a room in the Palace Tower, when you check in, very pleasantly ask if perhaps there are any of the large rooms overlooking the pool with the Jack and Jill bathrooms available. They are great!

I haven%26#39;t stayed at Caesars yet but when I just book my reservation for November I booked the Palace Tower. Yes, itis $30 more each night but after reading all the reviews I%26#39;m convinced the Palace Tower is worth the extra money. My only debate now is whether to upgrade to the new Augustus Tower. It would be interesting to stay in a new hotel room - assuming everything is working properly.

I would think that by November the initial kinks should have been taken care of. Does anyone know, is the August Tower in the same area as the Palace Tower part of Caesar%26#39;s?

The Augustus Tower is on the corner of the Caesars property on the strip %26amp; the street that MGM %26amp; Bellagio are on %26amp; faces Bellagio. In other words, when you USED to be able to see the fountains of Bellagio from the Palace Tower rooms, you now see the backside of the Augustus Tower. Imagine our surprise, when we opened up our curtains in May from our Palace Tower room overlooking the pool %26amp; expected to see the Bellagio Fountains as well...lol...no more fountains from Palace Tower rooms...lol...BUT worth the upgrade from the other Caesars rooms IMHO

    sorry...should read:

The Augustus Tower is on the corner of the Caesars property on the strip %26amp; the street that Ballys %26amp; Bellagio are on %26amp; faces Bellagio.

Definitely yes! I stayed there 6 mos ago and loved it. No one ever mentions the beautiful bathrooms that Palace Tower rooms have. They%26#39;re all marble, double sink, separate glass shower and whirlpool bath--just lovely. I%26#39;d give up the kitchen in my apartment to get that bathroom :) Seriously, either check their website or call them, sometimes can get specials that way. Unless you%26#39;re down to your bottom dollar, spend a little more and get a lovely room, you won%26#39;t be sorry.

Also meant to tell you Caesars has a 48-hr. cancellation policy. You could always book Palace Tower and if you change your mind later, so be it.

  • how safe are the safes in the room?

Hello all! Just wanted to settle a debate with my boyfriend so any opinions will help....Has anyone had any bad experiences with the safes in their room? I doubt it...but i plan on printing the responses and showing him later to prove that I%26#39;m right! Oh, BTW, i%26#39;m not the one worried!

    =0) Thanks!

how safe are the safes in the room?

I%26#39;ve never had a bad experience with safes in the room. I think that they are great.

It%26#39;s true that the hotel management can get into the safes if they really want to. This is in case a previous guest left something in there or something like that.

The maintenance people and the cleaners have no access to the safe at all.

Honest, if you don%26#39;t trust the hotel staff, don%26#39;t stay at that hotel. If you don%26#39;t trust any hotel anywhere ... well, that%26#39;s not a problem with the hotel ;)

how safe are the safes in the room?

need-a-vacay - I%26#39;ve never had any problems with hotel safes and my husband and I use them all the time. Did your BF have a bad experience, or is he just skeptical?

    SS

    Safe.

    Safe

I never had anything disappear from a safe, actually sort of the opposite. In a major chain in Indianapolis, I put items in the safe, created a code and locked it. Later, I couldn%26#39;t get it open. The Security Director came up and was able to get the safe open for me. At first he thought it was me, but when he created a code and couldn%26#39;t reopen the safe, he decided it was the lock. I guess if we coulnd%26#39;t get the safe open, no one else could either. I put the things in a safe deposit box at the front desk.

You can only use this to remind your bf ONCE, that you were right. I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll be right about plenty of other things during your trip and you%26#39;ll remind him about those often. ;-)

Hope you have a good trip.

I%26#39;ve left thousands of dollars (in cash) in the room safes many times without a problem.

We%26#39;ve never had a problem with the safes at any of the properties we%26#39;ve sayed at in Vegas.

Honestly, I think keeping them secure is very much in the best interests of the hotel/casinos. They%26#39;d never want to upset a whale or even a mid level gambler. Also, I think that if any hotel was found to have unsafe safes it would make a lot of buzz around town and discourage poeple from staying there.

LOL thank you everyone! He%26#39;s never had a bad experience, just the type of person that wants to keep all his money on him at all times....I, on the other hand, that needs to play it overly safe by even going to Vegas with half my money in travelers checks, ';just in case'; haha!

and yes CityLights, you are prob right!! =0)

He wants to keep all his money with him??? Hmmmm!!! I hope he has one of those travel pouches that go around the waist. Keeping all his money in his wallet isn%26#39;t such a great idea. There are pickpockets in Vegas -especially around attractions (Bellagios fountains, etc.). A safe would be so much more secure.

    Does everyone dislike Delmonico's?

I ate at Delmonico%26#39;s Steakhouse 2 years ago for lunch and really enjoyed the food...I%26#39;d like to go back next week with my parents for dinner but feel I%26#39;m the only one that likes this place.

    Does everyone dislike Delmonico's?

i have eaten at delmonicos 4 times, the bone in rib eye is

excellent, service is great, nice place, i dont understand either

the majority here for some reason enjoy, buffetts, circus

steak house and ellis island, go figure!

    Does everyone dislike Delmonico's?

Dolphina - I%26#39;ve eaten at Delmonicos and enjoyed my dinner there too. I say if you enjoyed so will your parents, go ahead and take them.

I%26#39;m with Susan, go to Delmonico%26#39;s, if we weren%26#39;t going to Emeril%26#39;s one night, we might try it but I want to spread the wealth around so one night at Emeril%26#39;s will do fine for us, would hate to have the other places go broke if we don%26#39;t try them, lmao.

Delmonico%26#39;s is great! I lived in NY area for most of my life, and this place is up there with the best NY steak houses for serive, and quality. Don%26#39;t listen to those reviewers....they%26#39;ve probably never set foot in anything other than a buffet line! It%26#39;s not cheap, but worth every penny.

Don%26#39;t ever worry about what other people think of a restaurant. The important thing is that You liked it and want to go back. That is all the matters. If you read the reviews of restaurants and hotels on this site you will read: ';it was the best (hotel, restaurant, pool, etc.) I ever experienced'; followed by another poster who writes: ';it was the worst place on earth and I will never go back.'; Go with what you want and enjoy!

VP03 is soooo correct. We all have such different expectations and opinions on hotels and restaurants. You know you enjoyed it, so go for it!

Delomonico%26#39;s is my husbands favorite...I think people try to find something to complain about or expecting more of 5** dining experience. Or they are completely turned off with the waiters, little speach...which can be annoying but look past it.

Just a note...They will ask you which bottle watter you will prefer... If you order, please expect $8-12 per bottle to be added to your bill. I know many of a message board that had this as their #1 gripe. Im a Las vegas Tap lover anyway.

Ask for the Wine room, It is more of an intimate settin

If money were no object, I would pick Delmonico%26#39;s anyday. I have eaten there back in 2002 and it was pretty good. I really like dthe gumbo. But still I prefer a good buffet over anything. I%26#39;m not the type that likes napkins placed in my lap and 4 waiters to a table. :)

Count my husband and I among those that LOVE Delmonico%26#39;s. Yes, it IS a bit pricey but we have eaten there on more than a few occasions and we have never been disappointed in any aspect of the meal, service, atmosphere, etc. We will eat there again without hesitation.

If you enjoy the experience of fine dinig at delmonico%26#39;s then go for it. With a site as large as this and people from all different walks of life, geographic locations, age, etc, there will of course be many different opinions of Delmonico%26#39;s. It does not mean that one is more ';right'; or ';wrong';--- Take each as just another ';nugget'; of info- agree or disagree but go with your feelings.

    ENJOY!! Jan

As I posted on another thread, part of the difficulties in assessing restaurant ratings and opinions on these various web sites is trying to determine what the reviewer is utilizing as criteria for review. As one poster here just honestly stated, they don%26#39;t like the type of service where waiters are hovering around constantly. Yet, someone else would interpret this as excellent service. Personally, I hate sitting around endlessly waiting for the check after finishing a meal yet I have friends who enjoy the long leisurely meal. And, there are many who base their opinions on service versus the quality of the food items themselves. You can read a real negative review and when you dig deeper it is because that particular person had to wait to be seated, etc. And, yet others base their assessment on price. So, it is hard to assess sometimes where is good or not based upon the quality of the food.

From all the reports that I can evaluate, Delmonico%26#39;s is viewed as excellent in food quality but over-priced compared to some other equal quality places. But, I ate at one Ruth%26#39;s Cris in Jacksonville where the Maitre d, wouldn%26#39;t return a well-done steak that I had ordered ';medium.'; And, I have had other fine meals at Ruth%26#39;s. So, should I rate the Ruth%26#39;s in Jacksonville poorly. Maybe so.... Anyway, it sounds like you want to treat your parents to an elegant meal and it appears when you delve deeper into the reviews that Delmonico%26#39;s will meet that special evening in a positive way. Just expect to pay.

    Foundation Room at Mandalay Bay

A friend of mine mentioned there was a bar called the Foundation Room at the top of the Mandalay Bay hotel that had a terrific view of the Strip. I have tried to locate information about this room on-line, but I haven%26#39;t had any luck. Does anyone have any information about it?

    Foundation Room at Mandalay Bay

I know of the foundation room belonging to the house of blues in mandalay bay. check the HOB web site.

    Foundation Room at Mandalay Bay

Yes, it%26#39;s on the House of Blues website. You have to be a member or be invited by a member to get into the Foundation Room, except on Monday nights.

The Foundation Room is a part of all House of Blue%26#39;s clubs. Its member%26#39;s only, you usually can%26#39;t get into that part of HOB without connections or invitation by a member.

  • (Budget Friendly) Trip Report 7/24 - 7/28 MGM

My first trip to LV was just this past April (to get married) and I still can%26#39;t believe I had already booked my next trip within 3 weeks of getting home.... I%26#39;ve got the Vegas bug.

7/24 Flight was easy and uneventful, I wish I could say the same about the MGM checkin desk at the airport! So I don%26#39;t go on and on about this let%26#39;s just say the agent was rude and it took the next 2 days of visits and calls to the front desk to get everything straightened out. Picked up a car from Alamo and headed to hotel for some much needed sleep.

7/25 This was a slow and easy day. Gambled at MGM, TI, and Bellagio. Broke even at Bellagio, won $10 at TI, and won $20 at MGM. Breakfast was quick and cheap at McDonald%26#39;s, lunch was the deli at MGM ($18), and dinner was amazing at Prime ($126w/tip). I was disappointed with the conservatory at Bellagio, it was much better the last time I was there. While at TI I ordered a DVD copy of my April wedding for $25. We vistied the lion habitat at MGM, it was interesting but crowded!

7/26 Our plan for the day was to spend some time at Red Rock, but after driving there we found out it was closed. Plan B, we went to Valley of Fire. VOF was beautiful, we really enjoyed it. Breakfast was fast food, lunch was a snack, and dinner at Rainforest Cafe ($48, minus a $25 gift cert from MyPoints.com and a free appietizer coupon from the in room magazine $15w/tip). After dinner we walked over to Tropicana. Signing up for the slot club got us a deck of cards and a coupon sheet. I used a coupon for a $0.75 ice cream cone and a $1.50 margarita. After pretty much breaking even in the casino we stopped by the slot club desk and since we had at least 30 minutes on our cards we each got a free tshirt.

We played the night away at MGM finished down about $30.

7/27 Started the day right with breakfast at the Paris Buffet ($32, I think). Spent some time in casino at Paris and then headed downtown. We did downtown at night last time so went went during the day this trip. Signed up at Lady Luck player%26#39;s club and received a Las Vegas pin and coupon sheet. Hubby used the BJ coupon. Headed over to GN, signup at player%26#39;s club for $10 free slot play. I won $10 with the free $10. We played at a few other downtown casinos and had lots of fun for little money. Stopped at Aladdin to shop at the Tommy Bahama store and join player%26#39;s club. Showed AAA card at the customer service booth and got a coupon book. Redeemed a coupon for a free coffee mug at casino and did a free spin, won a deck of cards. Late lunch at ESPNZone (FREE). That evening we caught our first full outdoor Bellagio fountain show, it was great. For $9 each we did the Eiffel Tower Experience, great views! Gambled at Barbary Coast for over a hour, hubby only lost $20 at BJ and I broke even. Quick dinner at In N Out ($14). Spent the rest of the night at MGM up a few dollars.

7/28 Breakfast buffet at MGM ($27, put towards $35 dining credit), food was ok. Spent some time at Ceasar%26#39;s window shopping and losing a couple dollars. Rest of the day at MGM breaking even. Returned car and took the red eye home.

We had a lot of fun without breaking the bank and can%26#39;t wait to go back!

(Budget Friendly) Trip Report 7/24 - 7/28 MGM

Enjoyed your report. Vegas is contagious isn%26#39;t it. You just don%26#39;t seem to be able to get enough.....

(Budget Friendly) Trip Report 7/24 - 7/28 MGM

Thanks for sharing. My friends don%26#39;t understand our (or maybe my) obsession with Las Vegas. I try to explain that you really don%26#39;t have to spend much and can still have a good time.

Great report!! You don%26#39;t always need a lot of money in Vegas!!

How was the food at the Rainforest Cafe? Seems a little pricey for lunch. I usually pass because I%26#39;ve heard it%26#39;s not very good, but I always have to see my favorite lion exhibit at MGM. I LOVE those lions!!! :-)

Glad you had a good time!!

    Anyone want to meet

I will be in Las Vegas August 19-23.......Anyone want to meet an old bat and have a few drinks??????

    Anyone want to meet

I won%26#39;t be there at that time, but I just wanted to say if anyone takes you up on it, please be careful. That are a lot of nutjobs out there.

    Anyone want to meet

I personaly love old bats, but I%26#39;ll be there a couple weeks later.

I%26#39;m sure (even for an old bat) youll find plenty of fun in Vegas !!!

    paris hotel

anyone stayed here this month. 1st time going any tips??

    paris hotel

Go to their breakfast buffet, one of the best!

    paris hotel

We always stay at Paris for its great location and the fact that its a pretty nice hotel and we get a fantastic rate through the player%26#39;s club. We will be there Fri/Sat of next week again. Granted the rooms are generally average, nothing hugely elegant, but the rates are reasonable for what I think is a solid 4-star hotel in a great location.

Also, if you get a players card, you can use it at all the affiliated hotels which include Caesars, Ballys, Paris, etc. and they are pretty decent with comps which you can use towards your stay be it room charges, spa, food, etc.

As for tips, mine is don%26#39;t play slots at Paris, I think they%26#39;re tight IMHO. Have a great time!

    monorail

Hi all you Vegas lovers! We will take our virgin trip in Sept. (I have learned so much from this site you guys are great.)

What has been your experience with monorail system? Should we use it or bypass?

    monorail

Just got back from a great trip July 28-Aug 1. Bought a day pass and it was very convenient. Able to use it all day and go from one end of the strip to another. Only 10 bucks

    monorail

    It is worth it !!

It%26#39;s definitely worth it if you%26#39;re traveling from the Convention Center area to the Strip (or vice versa).

However, I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s worth it if you%26#39;re just traveling within the Strip itself. The monorail stations are located at the back (east) end of properties on the east side of the Strip. It%26#39;s a long walk just to get back there ... and then another long walk from the destination station back out onto the Strip. It%26#39;s often quicker to just walk or (in non-peak hours) drive.

Even if you don%26#39;t really need to ride it you should just to say you rode the only public monorail in the US.

    Vegas

it depends on where you are staying and where you are going.

if you were going to stay at the sahara and spend alot of time center or south strip it would be worth it, but otherwise it takes as much walking to get back and forth from the monorail as it would to get to where your going

yeah forgot to mention we are staying at Luxor

If you are going to see star trek the experience, the monorail will work out great for you. There is a walkway or you can take the shuttle from the luxor to the excalibur, and from there you can cross over to the tropicana then to the MGM. Unfortunately the Mgm monorail station is located in a maze of cheesy shops in the back of the casino, but the monorail will drop you off at the entrance of the attraction at the las vegas hilton. If you aren%26#39;t going to the las vegas hilton it may not be worth your while, staying at the Luxor.

We stayed at NYNY and used the monorail to get up and down the strip for 3 days (3 day unlimited pass--$25). Well worth it, especially with business at the Convention Center, Star Trek Experience at the Hilton and Amazing Johnathan at the Sahara.

The only hassle was the monster hike through MGM to get to a station.

Also used it to get to Ballys and Harrahs. Sure we could have walked, but since it was air conditioned, it beat the heck out of hoofing it on the strip.

Just got back from Vegas and used Monorail for one day and it was worth it. Yes the walks to the stations were long, but really got our moneys worth traveling up and down that side of the strip.

Thanks for the info. We do plan to do the Star Trek experience at the Hilton

    Best Magic Shows

Please advise: what is the best magic show in Vegas? We are going at the beginning of October, and will just miss David Copperfield. What are the best bets on the regular shows?
